Thomas Barquee – Missa (2002)

Thomas Barquee – Missa (2002)

Awesome album. Its powerful energy is due to the fact that each track unites two religious musical cultures – Western and Eastern, in particular the hymns of the Catholic church (16-17 cc) and the famous mantras of India and Tibet.

His lyrics are taken from both the Roman Catholic service and the ancient Sanskrit texts and are inspired by the wisdom of Kahlil Gibran, Rumi, the Bhagavad Gita, the Bible and other writers and writers. In addition to this “vocal” (if I may say so) unification, the author comes to unity on the level of musical instruments. Pianoforte, saxophone, guitars, percussion, keyboards, sarod, mandolin, harmonica, flute, duduk, harmonium, wooden wind instruments – an extraordinary variety.

Thomas Barquee

German composer, a talented musician. He was born in 1963 in Hamburg. He was brought up in the family of Protestants and from earliest years frequented the church, largely attracted there by sacred music, especially J.S.Bach. As a child, he was also attracted to the music of L.Beethoven and composers of the Romantic era, and from the age of nine began to take piano lessons from the world-famous teacher in Hamburg.

From 16 to 18 he served as an organist in the church, but by that time his musical preferences had been replaced by the styles pop, rock’n’roll and even founded his band Million Dollar Secret and released the album Under the Surface. After the breakup of the band, Barquee releases a solo album, Long Way to Go, a song from which Girls Talk enters the European charts. In 1992 he released his second solo album Dancing on My Own.

In search of a new inspiration, Barquee moved to Los Angeles in 1992. After resuming his yoga classes, Thomas also returns to spiritual music, as a result of which he writes the album Temple. Thomas goes further, developing and improving, and there are such albums as Missa and The Sound of Om. After going from popular music to spiritual, Thomas created amazing music, music with an idea, music with a call for unity.
